Florida State Representative Says He’s Thankful Joe Biden Lost the Election

Florida state Representative Anthony Sabatini expressed thanks on Thursday that Joe Biden “lost” the 2020 presidential election.

Sabatini, a Republican who represents Florida’s 32nd district, tweeted the eye-catching comment on Thanksgiving, despite the fact that President Donald Trump lost both the Electoral College and the popular vote nationwide.

“I’m extremely thankful Biden lost in 2020,” Sabatini wrote. The Trump campaign has continued to allege that voter fraud and other irregularities tainted the election result, but has provided no evidence to substantiate this.

Sabatini has a history of surprising tweets. On November 21, he wrote: “Kyle Rittenhouse for Congress.”

Rittenhouse has been charged with six criminal counts, including first-degree intentional homicide, related to the deaths of two men during a Black Lives Matter protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on August 25.

On Thursday, Sabatini also shared an image of Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) appearing in a cloud over a painting of Native Americans on horseback. This is a callback to conservative attacks on Warren’s claims to have Native American heritage.

Although the claim attracted controversy and proved ultimately embarrassing for the senator, Trump and others were criticized for referring to her as “Pocahontas.” Native American groups said their use of the term was offensive.

Sabatini also praised the president on Thursday for appointing Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court and attacked the last Republican president, George W. Bush, as well as the current chief justice.

“Trump SAVED the Supreme Court,” Sabatini tweeted. “Bush almost DESTROYED it by appointing liberal John Roberts […] God Bless our President.”

“God wins,” he added.

Sabatini’s Twitter profile features a quote from the Orlando Sentinel newspaper, reading: “Sabatini is the worst person in the Florida legislature.” The sentence appeared in an article endorsing his Democratic opponent, Stephanie Dukes, in this year’s election.

He has served in the Florida House of Representatives since 2018 and was re-elected this month with 55.7 percent of the vote to Dukes’ 44.3 percent. This represents a margin of just under 13,000 votes.

The president and his campaign have repeatedly made unsubstantiated claims of mass voter fraud and filed more than 30 lawsuits aimed at challenging the results in key states. The vast majority have been unsuccessful.

Trump said on Thursday that he would accept a Biden victory if the Electoral College votes for the Democrat when it meets next month. This is the closest he has come to conceding defeat.
