Jeff Bezos says new disinformation board should investigate Biden tweet

Jeff Bezos, founder and executive chairman of Amazon, speaks at The Economic Club Milestone Celebration Dinner in September 2018.Jeff Bezos, the founder and executive chairman of Amazon, has asked a new Disinformation Governance Board created by Joe Biden’s administration to investigate a tweet from the president himself.

“The newly created Disinformation Board should review this tweet, or maybe they need to form a new Non Sequitur Board instead,” Bezos said in a tweet.

“Raising [corporate] taxes is fine to discuss. Taming inflation is critical to discuss. Mushing them together is just misdirection.”

His comments came in response to a tweet from Biden’s personal Twitter account in which he appeared to suggest higher corporate tax rates to bring down inflation.

“You want to bring down inflation? Let’s make sure the wealthiest corporations pay their fair share,” Biden tweeted.

The board was created by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as an internal working group “with the explicit goal” of protecting Americans’ freedom of speech, civil rights, civil liberties, and privacy, the department said in a statement earlier this month.

“The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is charged with safeguarding the United States against threats to its security, including threats exacerbated by disinformation,” the Homeland Security statement reads.

“The Department is focused on disinformation that threatens the security of the American people, including disinformation spread by foreign states such as Russia, China, and Iran, or other adversaries such as transnational criminal organizations and human smuggling organizations.”

Republican politicians including Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley have spoken out against the formation of the Disinformation Governance Board.
