Former White House advisor Kellyanne Conway has tested positive for COVID-19, revealing the diagnosis on Twitter Friday night.
“Tonight I tested positive for COVID-19. My symptoms are mild (light cough) and I’m feeling fine. I have begun a quarantine process in consultation with physicians. As always, my heart is with everyone affected by this global pandemic,”
Conway is the latest member of President Trump’s inner circle diagnosed with the virus, a list of people that includes advisor Hope Hicks, as well as the President and the First Lady. Early Friday evening it was announced Trump was admitted to the hospital for precautionary measures.
Conway, 53, seemingly made the announcement because her daughter, Claudia Conway, shared it first on TikTok.
It’s unclear where and when Conway contracted the virus, but according to a follow-up TikTok video, Claudia Conway suggested her mother may have been exposed to COVID-19 during President Trump’s Supreme Court nomination of Amy Coney Barrett last Saturday, held at the White House.
She would be the sixth person who attended the event to have tested positive—in addition to the President, first lady, and Hicks, Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee, Republican North Carolina Sen. Thom Tillis and University of Notre Dame President the Rev. John Jenkins are all confirmed to be positive for Covid-19, according to CNN.
At the event, which took place in the White House’s rose garden, masks were rare and seats did not appear to spaced six feet apart.
The timing of these diagnoses is ironic, given just last Wednesday Trump openly mocked his opponent Joe Biden for habitually wearing a mask at the first presidential debate. “I don’t wear masks like him. Every time you see him, he’s got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away from them and he shows up with the biggest mask I’ve ever seen.”
After it was revealed the President and his wife tested positive, Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris both issued well-wishing statements to the Trump family, and Biden has temporarily suspended negative campaign ads that harshly criticized the President in light of the diagnosis.
