What Time Will The Golden Globes 2022 Nominations Be Announced?

The 79th annual Golden Globe Award nominations are announced today ahead of the main ceremony in January.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the people who vote for the winners of the awards, are still in hot water over their criticism of Black representation but the awards are going ahead anyway. As a result of the controversy, the main ceremony will not be televised by regular broadcaster NBC until the HFPA completes its reform.

Despite the lack of screen time, and the entertainers who have boycotted the Golden Globes, the event is going ahead, starting with the launch of the announcement of the nominees today.

Here’s how you can watch the 2022 Golden Globe Award nominations today.

What time are the Golden Globe Award nominations announced?

It’s an early start for the team at the HFPA as they announce the 2022 Golden Globes nominations on Monday, December 13.

The event will be livestreamed from 6:00 a.m. PT and 9:00 a.m. ET.

The announcement ceremony will be broadcast live on goldenglobes.com and on the Golden Globes YouTube channel.

When is the 2022 Golden Globes ceremony?

The Golden Globe Awards returns to their normal schedule in 2022 after a pandemic-affected ceremony in 2021. The 78th annual Golden Globes was held later in the year on February 28, being broadcast from both Beverly Hills and New York.

The 2022 ceremony, the 79th annual Golden Globe Awards, will be held on Sunday, January 9, 2022. While last year’s ceremony was hosted by Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, it’s currently unclear who will host the 2022 ceremony.

The HFPA Black representation controversy

After the 2021 Golden Globes aired, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association started to receive criticism for the lack of diversity and Black representation among its members.

As a result, many studios, entertainers and broadcasters distanced themselves from the Golden Globes, which led the HFPA to announce its plans to reform its membership over the next 18 months.

Amazon Studios and Netflix announced they would stop their activities with the HFPA, NBC announced they wouldn’t broadcast the 2022 ceremony, and Tom Cruise supported entertainer boycotts by returning the three Golden Globe awards he’d won throughout his career.

On October 1, the HFPA revealed it had added 21 new members, which had an emphasis on adding more women and people of color. On October 15, the HFPA announced it would continue with plans to hold the 79th Golden Globe Awards ceremony with or without a U.S. broadcaster.

Usually a pre-curser to the Oscars, it’s unclear how the 2022 Golden Globes ceremony will look, and how the nominations will pan out. The Los Angeles Times reports that many of this year’s potential nominees have been advised to decline their nominations if they are to be recognized.

Before all of that though, the 2022 Golden Globe nominations will be announced at 6:00 a.m. PT and 9:00 a.m. ET.
