'Women Have Jobs, Too': Twitter Slams Trump for Telling Michigan Women He Will Get Their 'Suburban Husbands' Back To Work thumbnail

During a campaign rally on Tuesday evening, President Donald Trump claimed that he was “saving suburbia.” He insisted that he was the ideal presidential candidate for suburban women voters because he’s getting suburban husbands back to work, as the nation recovers from the coronavirus pandemic’s economic blows. However, his wording didn’t exactly bode well with some online.

“I’m also getting your husbands, they want to get back to work, right? They want to get back to work. We’re getting your husbands back to work, and everybody wants it,” Trump said at the rally. “And the cure can never be worse than the problem itself.”

Twitter was not impressed by Trump’s thinking.

“Guessed there might be some mitigating context to Trump’s remark to suburban women. Nope,” one user wrote. “‘And you know what else? I’m also getting your husbands – they wanna get back to work, right? They wanna get back to work. We’re getting your husbands back to work, and everybody wants it.'”

“Word to the president: women have jobs, too,” another fired back at Trump. “Donald Trump’s pitch to women voters ‘were getting your husbands back to work.’ Did he forget what century he is running for President in?” a third person posited.

“Because women, suburban or otherwise, they want security, they want security, they want safety. They want law and order.”

Are women really buying this bullshit?https://t.co/u3qOYDvsjj

Trump seems to be living in the world of “I Love Lucy” of the 1950s, assuring suburban housewives “we’re getting your husbands back to work!” 😲

Offensive gender roles aside, a lot of us middle-class suburban moms have loved having husbands working from home. It’s been grand. https://t.co/1cc1kWlKcz

trump’s “closing argument” to suburban women is that he’ll get their husbands’ jobs back. Really? Am I the only one who finds that condescending, tone deaf and sexist? Just asking.

This isn’t the first time the president has tried to woo suburban women voters. During a rally in Nevada, the president appeared to beg for the demographic to like him.

“Go buy a dishwasher. I said what’s wrong with this thing? It doesn’t clean the dishes right. The women come up to me, the women who they say don’t like me — they actually do like me a lot,” Trump said on October 18 during a rally in Nevada. “Suburban women, please vote for me. I’m saving your house. I’m saving your community. I’m keeping your crime way down.”

The suburbs were also a talking point for Trump during the first presidential debate in September. “If (Biden) ever got to run this country and they ran it the way he wants to run it, our suburbs would be gone, our suburbs would be gone,” Trump said at the time. “And you would see problems like you have never seen.”
