Former eBay senior manager, Brian Gilbert, has been sentenced for his involvement in a cyberstalking campaign that targeted a Massachusetts couple. Gilbert, 56, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit cyberstalking and conspiracy to tamper with witnesses. He was sentenced by US Senior District Court Judge William Young to time served, one year of supervised release, and a $20,000 fine.
The victims, David and Ina Steiner, operated an online newsletter called EcommerceBytes, which had drawn the ire of eBay executives due to its critical coverage. Gilbert, along with six other former eBay employees and contractors, orchestrated a disturbing harassment campaign against the Steiners.
