“So, I still have glass in my hand,” he continued. Sometimes I can’t feel my hand a little bit — it comes back.”
“Probably (I’ll) see what I can do about it afterward. The doctor said that I should be okay. But like they said, it’ll probably cause more problems to take the glass out, so they left it in. So, ever since that day, I’ve had glass in my hand.”
The injury in question is something Smart has mentioned as having bothered him still previously, and Smart related that he’d even saved some of the shards that nearly severed a tendon (and perhaps even his playing career).

“I probably would have had to have surgery,” said Smart to ESPN’s Chris Forsberg at the time. “I would have been done for the year.”
Hopefully, mild discomfort is all he has to deal with from that momentary lapse of self-control that still reminds the Texan guard it occurred all these years later.
