  • Giang Bui, who has worked at Cboe Global Markets since 2016 and as director of listings there since 2018, has left the Chicago-based exchange operator to head up Nasdaq’s ETF listings team, a source familiar with the matter told Business Insider.
  • Bui is stepping into the role previously occupied by Steve Oh, who left Nasdaq in October to join the SEC as a senior policy advisor overseeing exchange-traded products
  • Bui previously worked at Intercontinental Exchange before joining Cboe in March 2016, according to her LinkedIn profile

Nasdaq has nabbed a new head for its exchange-traded fund listings business from rival Cboe Global Markets.

Giang Bui is set to fill the role of ETF listings at Nasdaq, according to a source familiar with the matter, which was left open by the departure of Steve Oh in October to join the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Bui did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A Nasdaq spokesperson declined to comment.

Bui joins Nasdaq from Cboe, where she was based in New York and served as a director for its listings businesses since March 2018. Prior to joining Cboe, Bui spent time with Intercontinental Exchange, the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange, according to her LinkedIn.

“We have valued Giang’s contributions and wish her all the best in her future endeavors,” a spokesperson for Cboe said. “Cboe maintains a strong bench of talent and remains committed to providing the best markets for ETP issuers, investors and market makers.”

Of the 10 most heavily traded ETFs, three are listed on Nasdaq — ProShares UltraPro Short QQQ, Invesco QQQ, and ProShares UltraPro QQQ — according to ETF Database. Among the seven other ETFs in the top 10, all but one are listed on NYSE Arca.

While exchanges have increasingly focused on selling data collected on their venues, nabbing listings still remains a core part of their business.
