Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden currently leads President Donald Trump in the key swing state of Wisconsin, according to a new poll.
The poll, which was conducted by Reuters/Ipsos, found 53 percent of respondents saying they’d vote for the former vice president, compared to 44 percent for Trump.
Reuters/Ipsos surveyed 1,008 adults in Wisconsin from October 20 to October 26 and reported a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
Biden’s 9-point lead is a slight increase from earlier this month. A Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted October 6-11 found Biden leading Trump by 7 points (51 to 44 percent), while another from October 13-19 found Biden ahead by 8 points (51 to 43 percent).
Two polls conducted by Reuters/Ipsos in September found Biden with a much smaller lead. In one from September 11-16, 48 percent said they’d vote for Biden, while 43 percent chose Trump. In another from September 29 to October 5, the former vice president led Trump by 6 points (50 to 44 percent).
During the 2016 election, Trump won the state by less than a point over Hillary Clinton.
In the most recent poll, Wisconsin voters said Biden would better handle health care and the national recovery amid the novel coronavirus pandemic.
According to the poll, 51 percent said Biden would be better at handling health care, compared to 33 percent who said the same for Trump. Forty-eight percent said the former vice president would be better at handling the recovery from the pandemic, while 36 percent said Trump would.
On the other hand, more Wisconsin voters said Trump would be the better candidate to handle the economy, as well as be tough on crime and civil unrest. According to the poll, 45 percent of respondents said Trump would better handle the economy and job creation, while 43 percent said the same for Biden.
Forty-four percent said Trump would be tough on crime and civil unrest, compared to 38 percent who said the same for Biden.
The poll’s findings come a week before Election Day, where voters will choose their presidential candidate for the next four years. The poll found 32 percent of Wisconsin adults saying they have already voted in the election, with 27 percent saying they have already voted at an early voting location and 5 percent saying they already voted via an absentee or mail-in ballot.
In addition to leading Trump in Wisconsin, several polls have also shown the former vice president ahead nationally.
A Real Clear Politics average of national polls shows Biden leading Trump by 7.3 points.
